- Obstetric scan
- A scan during pregnancy to check how your baby is growing and developing. It can confirm the heartbeat, the baby's position, the amount of amniotic fluid and where the placenta sits, and it helps estimate your due date.
- Fetal anomaly scan
- A detailed scan, usually done in the second trimester, that looks closely at your baby's development, including the head, spine, heart, limbs and organs.
- Umbilical artery Doppler
- A Doppler scan that measures blood flow through the umbilical cord. It shows how well blood is reaching your baby and is often used when there are concerns about growth.
- Biophysical profile
- A scan, usually in later pregnancy, that checks your baby's wellbeing by looking at breathing movements, body movement, muscle tone and the amount of amniotic fluid.
